Hebrews 6:1 tells us, “So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely, we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God” (NLT).

Living as a Christian involves more than just reciting a prayer of commitment to Christ. It is following Jesus as your Lord as well as your Savior. It is giving Jesus access to every part of your life. It is allowing Him to be in control. He is in the driver's seat of your life.

Discipleship occurs when we are willing to be taught the Lord’s ways. If we are to grow in our relationship with Christ, we must study His Word and do what His Word says.

You will be spiritually weak if the only thing you do for spiritual nourishment is listen to sermons. Teaching and preaching have their place, but you have to learn how to chop your own food, so to speak. Spiritual self-sufficiency is something you must learn and continue to grow in, as Disciples of Christ.

In other words, we ought not remain spiritual infants forever but rather mature as believers. In order to be God-fearing men and women of God, we must mature.
