Building A Godly Legacy

A godly legacy is a spiritual inheritance passed down through generations that is defined by faith, righteousness, and commitment to God.

This legacy is founded on spiritual values and principles that are consistent with the Word of God, rather than material wealth and social status.

Joshua 24:14-16, Joshua shares a convicting message to the Israelites.

14 “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt and serve the Lord. 15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua made it abundantly clear in verse 16 “as for him and his household, they will serve the Lord.”

Just like the Israelites, there will come a time when we have to choose who or what we will serve. The choice belongs to each of us.

Joshua stood up for the Lord. Joshua demonstrated his ability to lead others spiritually. Joshua made a commitment to God and was resolved to live up to his vow no matter what other people thought.

My husband Lee has a heart for God’s people, empowering and encouraging those the Lord leads his way to take ownership of their decisions. His motto, "I am NOT a product of my circumstances. I am a PRODUCT of my decisions!"

The way we live our lives shows others the strength of our commitment to serving God.

After hearing Joshua's message, the Israelites boldly claimed that they would never forsake the Lord, and they did just that.

The nation followed God throughout Joshua’s lifetime, which was a great testament and tribute to Joshua’s faith in God, powerful leadership, and legacy.

But they did not keep that promise, even though Joshua warned them of the consequences.

The covenant between Israel and God was that the people would worship and obey the Lord alone.

This covenant still stands today with God and us through Jesus Christ, that we would worship and obey the Lord alone.

When we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior over our lives, we are no longer in the driver's seat. We become Disciples of Christ, by denying ourselves daily, following and continually obeying His teaching as we live our lives unto Him.

Knowing that life is short, and eternity awaits us, I challenge every one of us to choose to follow, obey, and serve God while we are still here.
